The call
One idea in. A few cards out.
Proto sends your sentence to the model with a fixed instruction: reply with a title, a one-line summary, and a short list of branches. The page draws a card only when that reply parses. A paragraph, a fence with nothing inside, or a single lonely branch is not turned into a map.
Clicking a card sends that branch back, with the original idea and the path that got you there, and asks for children of that card alone. The map stops four steps out from the centre so it stays something you can still read.

The allowance
It spends the week you already have.
There is no second meter. Before the model runs, Proto checks the same burst limit as chat and the same weekly token count, including replies that are still in flight. If the week is gone, you get the same kind of stop chat gives you, with a link to plans.
A call that reaches the model is charged for the prompt and the reply. A call that never reaches it, or that you stop, releases the hold. Proto does not write the idea into your chat history.

What is Proto?
Proto is an idea map inside cognira. You describe one idea, cognira Retrain returns a handful of concrete branches, and you can edit any card by clicking it. Right-click a card and choose Branch to ask the model for children of that card only. It is not a separate model and it does not invent a generic diagram of Users, Data, and Infrastructure.
Does Proto use my chat allowance?
Yes. A new map and each branch you grow are model calls on your account. They count toward the same weekly token limit as chat, and they share the same short burst limit, so a pile of clicks in one second waits like a pile of messages would.
Where do the maps live?
On this browser, under the account you are signed in with. Proto does not file the idea into your chat history. Copy the outline or download an image if you want it somewhere else.
What if the model does not return a map?
The page only draws branches it can read as a map. A reply that is a paragraph, or a week that is already spent, stays as a message above the composer. Nothing is filled in with placeholder topics.
